Glad to lay 2009 to rest.... - Wynne's Notes

Jan. 5th, 2010 11:56 pm Glad to lay 2009 to rest....

2009 was not a particularly pleasant year for my family. And then of course we start the new year with the death of our beloved father on Jan. 1, 2010 at 9:30 am. When I look back, that is extremely close to the time I gave birth on Jan. 1, 1988 to my daughter Mariam who is now 22. So to recap 2009......

First grand-daughter was born to much happiness all around.
That soon turned to dispair as we realized she had some major lung problems.
2 months of traveling between neonatal units at Florence Hospital and Charleston Children's Hospital.
Finally baby comes home and then baby momma gets sick.
Jackie had to have gallbladder out within a month of baby coming home.
Father's health deteriorating as the Alzheimers progresses rapidly.
Mother struggles with keeping dad at home and trying to do everything for him.
Jackie back in the hospital in dire straits with gallstones migrating to her pancreas where they are lodged. Her life is in peril. More surgery to repair damage.
Did have a fantastic time at DragonCon this year. Seems each year it just gets better.
School is school. I have a couple of asses as usual.
Sajid, Jackie and baby come up before Thanksgiving. We have a great time while they are here.
Dad takes a turn for the worse and mother can no longer care for him at home. He is too heavy for her to lift, change, wash, and get into bed. Hospice sends workers to the house several times a week to help. He winds up at the hospital because of dehydration and then is sent to Hospice because he is in the last stages.
Out for Christmas vacation and we spend days running back and forth to Hospice. Our family Christmas gathering is in a hospice room.
Daddy finally succumbs to the Alzheimers on Jan. 1, 2010.

Now we have to learn to cope without the man that was everything to our family. Not only was he loving and giving, he was witty, creative, artistic, friendly to everyone and generous beyond belief. Heaven has indeed received an angel,
